Breeches buoy project

The breeches buoy was a life-saving device invented roughly 150 years ago. The device was used often in the event of an emergency. This device was also used in transporting people from ship to ship as well.  The buoy is ring shaped and it has a canvas-like leg harness hung by breeches. In the event of an emergency or other situation, a line would be deployed from a ship or the shore to another ship by a Lyle gun or rocket. A person would then get into the buoy, attached to the line, and be pulled to shore or another ship manually. This device was often used when ships were sinking, or badly damaged. This device was also useful because it could be shot over a distance of six hundred yards.

The breeches buoy did not develop that much overtime. It was used as is for many years. I would estimate that the breeches buoy was invented some time between 1850-1900. I would say this because of what some of my research says, and also, because the photography of early pictures of this device has black and white faint images. Photography was also invented in the latter part of the 1800s, so it would be a possible clue that the breeches buoy was invented around the same time.
