The picture I was assigned is #5. The technology in this picture is the Blynman Bridge, or the "Cut Bridge" It´s named after Reverend Blynman. He was the political and religious leader of the time. Reverend Blynman supervised the cutting of the first canal at the harbor end of the Annisquam River. The first bridge was built on this location so that fishing boats would have a safer passage home if they fished north of Gloucester.
Now it´s the source of long delays to summertime motorists who have to wait for boat traffic to pass under the bridge. Annisquam is the Indian word for "river with two mouths."The technology was first developed in 1907. The Blynman Bridge was made in honor of Richard Blynman. He was the first minister and leading citizen of Gloucester. In 1643, he dug this canal uniting River and Bay.
