#20 Russia Cement Company (Gloucester, MA) (Glue Factory)
The manufacturing of glue started as early as the 19th century. This young guy named William Nelson LaPage moved to Massachussets with his family in the early time. There he became a chemist and in the mid 1870s, he invented a industrial glue made from fish skin that was ready-to-use and extremely strong. This was found in the 1870s. 1870-1875 William N. LePage finally rediscovers the art of making fish glue. His ready-to-use adhesive can be kept in storage for months. This important guy decided to start his business. Finally in 1876 "The LePage" Company is founded. Products are manufactured by the Russia Cement Company in Gloucester, Massachusetts USA. If it wasn't for the Russia Cement Company in Gloucester none of this would have happened. Eventually, this is going to grow into a big factory that will make a big change in the glue world so far.(www.thecakelady.ca)
In the picture above was an example showing how they would process the glue; this was taken in around 1876. As the process of the glue company starts to become more and more popular, things starts to change. In 2002 Manco and LePage change their names to Henkel Consumer Adhesives and Henkel Canada Corporation, Consumer Adhesives, respectively. Later in 2008 Henkel Acquires the Adhesives and Electronic Materials businesses previously owned by National Starch. By acquiring these businesses, Henkel substantially further strengthened its leading position in the global adhesives markets, particularly in the industrial segments. The LePage brand is a know known and trusted leader in DIY adhesives and sealants in Canada. Since 1876 until now in 2013, LePage has been the choice of consumers and professionals for many of their home projects. (www.lepageproducts.com)
