My invention in Gloucester is a rope walk which use to be on the boulevard. A rope walk is a narrow lane or a covered pathway, where long strains were laid before they were twisted in to ropes. Rope walks were like sweatshops and frequently caught on fire, from hemp dusts mixture.
Rope was needed for sailing ships and the standard rope was 1000 feet long made for Europe and was essentially called British Naval Rope. Over the years only one original rope walks has still been in business and is making rope commercially. Over time rope walks have been turned into slack-lining.
