My picture is a antique steam roller. Thomas Aveling built his first steam roller in 1865. The steam roller model in this picture was first manufactured in 1899. The first steam rollers were three barreled designs and is driven by gears. The back two wheels are small smooth wheels, the front is one smooth double wide wheel. The design and use of the steam roller never really changed just parts were upgraded on it. The engine started off as a steam engine and slowly made its way to a modern gas engine. The biggest change of the steam roller is it used to be a three barreled engine but now it is a double barrel engine.
This picture was taken roughly in the year 1900. This model was produced in 1899 and people probably waited a little while to buy this machine. The 1900 or a little later would probably be the most accurate.
