This picture above is a photo of the department of commerce and the technology or machine in this picture is a railroad train or locomotive. Locomotives were used for transportation of people to different locations and they were also used to transport materials like resources and other machinery. The locomotive or steam engine was first created in 1803 by Samuel Homfray. The train changed over time and by the 1900's or after the civil war the steam engine was upgraded to iron rails and coal. The train above was a steam engine and was used in the early 1900's. The train was a critical invention in the time period because it basically settled the west because the central and pacific train companies ran through the west bringing farmers and workers that set up and built the west civilizations. Even after the decline of the railroads in the west trains were still very important to the industrialization time period because it basically set up a way for more things to be created because it transported all the materials.
