In this picture, there are crowds of people, an American flag, and horses pulling either carriages or coaches. Carriages have been a form of transportation for many years. The chariot is the first recorded form of the carriage, used as early as 3000 BC by Egyptians and the people of Mesopotamia. At the time, it was used for warfare. The Romans starting used carriages, with the purpose of transportation, around first century BC. The overall design of the carriage has been changed and modified throughout the years, but the concept has always been the same (Wikipedia.org).
This image is in black in white, so it is likely that color photography was not available at the time. Photography was first used in the early 1800's, and color photography became conventional in the early 1900's. Affordable automobiles were sold around 1902, so this picture i likely to have been taken before then. This leads me to the conclusion that this picture took place around the 1850's or 1860's.
